SOUTHERN HOMEMADE BISCUITS

SOUTHERN HOMEMADE BISCUITS

4 cups self-rising flour
3 Tbsp. baking powder
2 Tbsp. sugar
7 Tbsp. shortening
2 cups buttermilk

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a large bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and sugar together. Cut the shortening into the flour until it is a pea consistency. Add buttermilk gradually until there is dough consistency. Dust a board or counter with flour, pour the dough onto the floured board or counter and dust the top of the dough with flour to make it easier to work with. Knead dough. (do not overwork) Roll mixture out to about an inch thickness and cut out biscuits with a biscuit cutter or a round glass. Place biscuits onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake approximately 10-15 minutes.
